AREAS OF INTERVENTION
Programme activities encompass the direct operations for vulnerable individuals, institutions and communities in Kenya at Cross border to Somalia, majority of our current project and completed ones are contracted by us from UN and International donors or other agencies.
In order to conduct systematic efforts to build competence and transfer expertise, and thereby enhance the quality of operations in the field that CONTRASAD chose to concentrate its Programme activities around seven core components in our interventions in south central Somalia
Advocacy Peace Building And Conflict Resolution
Due to the geopolitical diversity and continues clan clashes within and surrounding operation area had given good experience of intervening and mediation groups therefore had played a good role on engagement and mobilization of key Actors including the authorities, traditional elders, and religious groups to negotiate peace between the sub-clans.
CONTRASAD is fully committed to mediate as independent peace-maker between the any warring parties in the operation area through mobilization of traditional leadership and other social groups in addition to that the organization advocates peace stability and good governance through provision of capacity building in peace building workshops/seminars to the local communities by targeting, traditional leadership, youth group, women group and businessman as well
Water Sanitation And Hygiene (WASH)
The needs of the water in Somalia had been top priority throughout the Somalia history and hinterland nomadic settlements had been worst, the chronic water shortage was in result due to persistence droughts, lack of rural sustainable public water sources, absent technical knowhow at community level had father contributed the raise of water wash and water born diseases.
Apart from the morbidity and mortality related to consumption of unsafe water, most of the cases rural water source in Somalia settled regions in Kenya, Somalia and Ethiopia context remains divider rather than connecter due to meagre water facility that attracts many nomadic communities often creates chaos that turns in to insecurity and sometimes clan clashes, therefore rural water development is the main focus that CONTRASAD has the technical expertise inherited a number of successful community owned projects, which are still sustained by their respective communities.
The CONTRASAD staffs are equipped with immense capacity with the right attitude towards community driven approaches through participation and partnership in interventions of their priority needs.
The same line sanitation and hygiene had been other main factor contributing several dieses incidents and mortalities due to absent of sanitary facilities, lack of awareness, unhygienic practices, taboos and limited expertise at the community level as a result of this needs CONTRASAD is committed to provide highest cost affective quality intervention
Food Security And Livelihoods
The nomadic pastoralist’s main livelihood is livestock and the inadequacy of the essential resources like water has always generated competitions which lead to conflict.
The high illiteracy rates recorded in the region is said to be one of the major factors that contributed to the under development coupled by lack of strong central Government, absence of gender equity and the presence of many uneducated idle youth turned to piracy due to the lack of learning institutions as well as rehabilitation facility in result it was ear-marked the region as a danger zone creating a sense of insecurity, a scenario which blocked a lot of development initiatives from the international community, civil society organizations, development partners as well as community self-initiatives.

Health and nutrition SBGV (Sexual based gender violence), IDP’s Protection
CONTRASAD is currently engaged advocacy for IDPs protection and the wellbeing in Kismayu through assisting local authorities in the improvement of the condition of IDPs, coming from villages outside of Kismayu, moreover Organization is contributing consultancy and provision of technical support to main towns of Lower Juba regions with provision of new initiative fabrication a appropriate and protective local made shelter for IDPs which is environmental friendly
The organization has consistently advocated that violence against women and girls is a human rights violation and a public health priority therefore contributions in this area as a major part of its activities within our humanitarian projects as crosscutting in furthering gender equality and women’s empowerment, in line with its commitment to achieving the MDG Goals
Partnership, Coordination and networking
Throughout its working experience in Kenya and South central region Somalia, in Middle and Lower Juba region CONTRASAD has developed good and effective networks with all relevant humanitarian partners and stakeholders.
CONTRASAD is an active member of UN and Government led clusters and participates in monthly coordination meetings both technical and routine meetings
